Ceremony to commemorate the liberation of the Jews of Belgium

The Marolles neighbourhood was the target of two major raids: one on 3 September 1942, against foreign Jews; the other on 3 September 1943, against Belgian Jews. A “3 September square” was inaugurated in 2018, at the entrance to the Marolles neighbourhood. Speeches, songs and concerts will animate 1 September, which will take place on Square Herschel Grynszpan, named after the young Jew who murdered a German embassy attaché in Paris. His actions then became the pretext for the pogrom of the infamous Kristallnacht from 9 to 10 November 1938.
